DVD?

Is this film curently available on DVD? This is a classic post war era movie, which reflects the ideas of the time.

yes--I just watched it but the ending seems abrupt. they just go onto breakfast. In the play Emil puts the father's picture back on the wall. Do you know if the movie is cut?

reply

A bizarre movie but overall a satisfying baroque experience. I have recorded this to DVD and was surprised when it ended so abruptly. Leonard Maltin's Classic Movie Guide gives the running time as 95 minutes. The version that TCM occasionally screens is exactly 81 minutes and 45 seconds, at least 13 minutes shorter! I wonder if a whole reel has been left out?

It's at my library so not too obscure.

Uh, yeah.....the last time I checked, WWII did not end until the spring of 1945. IMDB says this movie was made in 1944, so it's not a post-war movie.
