Did newspapers back in the '40s actually...

... print photographs of people in their underwear? I'm referring to the scene where Irene Dunne's character finds herself on the front page of a newspaper in only her slip. I wasn't born then, so maybe someone who was might know of any tabloid newspapers doing such a thing back then.

A similar thing happens in The Petty Girl to Joan Caulfield's character (which I just saw today and jogged my memory about the earlier film the latter was remade from). That was 1950, but I question if it would also have happened then (unless it was in Confidential or a magazine of that caliber).
