A good companion movie to Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo

Destination Tokyo (1943) starring Cary Grant as the captain of a submarine that snuck into Tokyo harbor to get weather and other meteorological information for Doolittle's raiders. It is purely fictional but it is an excellent example of the films made during the war. Grant's "roller skate" monologue is a classic.

Agree. Destination Tokyo is a little overlong but it is a fine wartime war movie and complement to this film. One of my favorite submarine movies.

I would not go quite so far as to say that "Destination Tokyo" is 'purely fictional.' The specific story about the sub in the movie with Cary Grant as captain was fictional, but there was a U.S. Navy submarine presence in Tokyo Bay collecting visual intelligence for the raid. I doubt that they were told why they were collecting the information, just that it was needed. Being good sailors they did not ask why, they just executed the mission.
