Van Johnson's Scars

After the plane crashes, you can see terrible scars on Van Johnson's forehead for the rest of the movie. Unfortunately, they weren't makeup.

He was in a car accident about a year before this film. He suffered a fractured skull, multiple facial cuts, a severed artery in his neck and bone fragments that pierced his brain. You can see them very clearly at the end of the movie in a closeup as he hugs his wife.

Thank you for regurgitating information in the trivia section.

Perhaps the OP just wants to reach out for some sense of community.

Thank YOU for your obnoxious, unsolicited response. You appear to be incapable of little else...what an insignificant, petty existence you must lead.

Not everybody studies the trivia sections, and there are no requirements that one must to do so before posting a comment. No harm came to you nor anyone else as a result.

It wasn't exactly a regergitation of the trivia section at all. Just pointing out what many people didn't realize. Most people go straight to the message boards to ask questions about who played what before checking the cast list most of the time. I read about Van Johnson's bio years ago, when I wondered why he was in so many movies during WW2 and not in the service.

"check the imdb cast list before asking who portrayed who in movies please"

In showing his unconcealed post-crash facial scars, the movie-makers committed a "goof". They were implying that the scars were caused by the post-raid crash, yet there was almost no bleeding from the wounds at the crash site. And at the nearby clinic, shortly after the crash, the scars, though visible (and not covered with concealer make-up), were fully healed. Realistically, the scars would have been bleeding profusely at the crash site, and would have been covered with bloody scabs at the Chinese clinic. No biggie - just a minor goof.

I think that this was deliberate, as opposed to a "goof". WWII films were EXTREMELY careful about showing any sort of blood or disfigurement.

While the War was in progress, they'd be very sensitive about such things. Think about how daring it was to have Harold Russell appear in THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES. It wouldn't have been possible during the War.

I do hope he won't upset Henry...
