Remake

Instead of remaking movies that are only 15-20 years old, how about remaking The Sullivans.

I think I'd have a hard time enjoying a remake of this classic. Although I'm sure I'd enjoy the story, the cast would probably ruin it for me. I love the casting of the original so thoroughly that I wouldn't want to see anyone else in the roles. I know, not very open-minded but if it's not broke, why fix it?

Amen I agree with you. Leave it the hell alone!!

I agree with you too. Movie's great as it is. Why must we "remake" everything?

reply

Too true.

Amen to that, but knowing Hollywood it would lose a little. Alas, they would probably have six boys, and half would survive the war. Maybe if Clint would direct and Spielburg produces it could be made right.

Why does every board on this site want to remake movies!? Isn't there enough talent left in Hollywood to leave the greats from the past alone!?

reply

It wouldn't be a remake. Spend the first twenty minutes doing something about their childhood, then the rest of the movie would be a modern telling of their wartime service. You know, A PTO (Pacific Theater of operations) war movie.

Will you please leave this movie alone? Not everything needs to be remade!

A remake would suck.. First you would have a bunch of GQ looking guys playing the Sullivans.. It would be completely unrealistic..

The story wouldn't resonate with today's audiences and critics. It would get blasted for being too Eurocentric (all the brothers are white), too heterocentric (the brothers are all straight), too reactionary (they all join the navy), too conservative (they're all Catholic; the younger brother gets married, and only THEN does he father a child, and abortion is never even discussed as an option), too insensitive to the victims of bullying (they fight with other kids in the neighborhood), too insensitive to child abuse (no social worker to berate the father or threaten to take them into custody after any instances of of the father's old-fashioned discipline), misogynistic (the brothers' comaraderie usually excludes their sister), and non-environmentally friendly (the father works on a train which runs on a non-renewable energy source).

All of these flaws would have to be eliminated to be a success today, like one of the brothers would need to be an adopted non-white child. They would grow up secular and sensitive, with time-outs called by the mother whenever they got too aggressive. They would cooperate with other neighborhood kids in recycling drives and anti-bullying campaigns. They would all join the Peace Corps or Greenpeace in the wake of a climate-change-caused tragedy. And it would need to be directed by whoever directed "The Family Stone."

The most IDIOTIC thing I've ever heard of. Leave THE SULLIVANS, and HISTORY alone.
