My late mother always insisted that "The Purple Heart" was originally titled "Land of the Rising Sun" or something similar. According to what I've read, it was always titled "The Purple Heart". She was pretty sharp when it came to movie trivia so I am skeptical.

Your mother may have been thinking of "Behind the Rising Sun" (1943), starring Tom Neal.
