Don't let this movie turn you off to L+H

This is a poor excuse for a Laurel and Hardy movie. The writing is awful. There are momentary sparks of funny but they are all too few and fleeting.

Do yourselves a favor and rent the Music Box or Dirty Works.. or Way out West . Anything before 1940 and before MGM got their hands on the boys and slowly made a fine mess of their careers.

I respectfully disagree with your assessment of the film. I agree that it is far from being their best work but it still has several great gags such as the football game and the whole bit with the lion. Both Laurel and Hardy put in good performances but are weighed down by the young actor who plays the king who is very corny. The script could have used some tightening but it still works. I enjoyed this film for what it is: a later L & H effort.

A respectful disagreement is always a welcome change from most of the vitriol spewed on these boards. :)

My point is directed at new comers to the world of L&H. There are better films to start with if you want experience L&H at their best.

I agree 100% with your statement. People should not be introduced to Laurel and Hardy with an MGM or Fox film, although some of these are much better than what people give them credit for. I think the Bullfighters and The Big Noise are quite good.

Nothing But Trouble should be titled Count the Cliches, or Nothing But Cliches. This plot was used about 1,000 times before -- and that was in 1944! What a waste of talent.
