i was up to the part in the flashback where janina had been shot and they were in the church and willie had just turned his back on Wilhelm and Marsha Hunt was looking up at Willie who was standing behind.

Hi! Just watched it. Great film, considering it was shot before WWII was over.
In short: Wilhem shots and kills Willies, the flashback ends and goes back to the process, with Wilhelm who says that with this process they only win a battle and that nazis can't be defeated. Finally, the judge says that the men and women of United Nations will have the duty to estabilish the sentence to be inflicted to war criminals.

Re "considering it was shot WW11 was over." Yes. The film-makers couldn't have known the full horror of the atrocities perpetrated by the Nazis at the time.
