Ernie Mott - Game Theory concept

TMC had this on recently and couple things stick with me besides this being an excellent film. Never saw it before and was refreshing to see Cary Grant in the dramatic role that did not cater to his more prominent persona.

At one point Cary "Ernie" is explaining himself and poses a question out of game theory I can't recall all of dialogue. So I'm paraphrasing "seems to be choice of willful and deceitful, be a victim or be a thug, suppose you want to be neither?"
Clifford Odets sums up a universal thought of mankind.

Another that I recall, "Rags are the uniform of my independence"

Yes, it seems to him that the world is divided into predator and prey, and he doesn't want to be either. A fairly standard yearning for independence, although I'm not sure what this has to do with Game Theory.

Another quote I quite liked: "The buildings of the world are empty--the human heart is everything."

He referred to thug and victim and "hound and hare", or as Pink Floyd would say, "dogs and sheep".

Marlon Brando says something similar in The Fugitive Kind.
