Playing Tonight on Svengoolie on MeTV

I'm taping it since I was up at 4 A.M. and will probably fall asleep. I am curious to see it because it is set in the bayou and I am from Louisiana. Cheers.

The only reason I could think it would be said to be in Louisiana would be because it was filmed in Louisiana.

Otherwise, what else could possibly have brought about the decision to place the mummy in Louisiana?

I mean, forget how the previous movie ended. Say the mummies fell in the river and were swept away, giving way to this sequel, but why Louisiana?

I'm watching it now, I remember seeing this one before. I know it has a very bad racial stereotype, which truth be told, can be accurate for even today, tho it is wrong to think ALL black people act that way.

But surely that isn't why it was set in Louisiana. Im not hearing a lot of suh-thuhn accents being tossed around.

For the record, I'm in Dixie as well. I would think it would be cool to be set in my homestate, but I know that is unlikely for Hollywood at this time period, even for today.

But why, . . . in 1944, . . . have it take place in Louisiana?

IMDb lists the filming location as Bayou, Louisiana which tells me nothing. Tried to find another source with no luck. I would guess it would have to be somewhere near New Orleans considering when it was filmed. The accents are all over the place and none of them are authentic. I found the DVD of Panic in the Streets (1950) at Big Lots and one of the first things you notice is the real people from New Orleans with their "yat" accents.

If it was actually filmed IN Louisiana, that could have been cheaper.

The only program this old that I have seen filmed in Louisiana is the Phantom serial, the purple-garbed superhero, as clearly the belief was Louisiana 'looked' like Africa (wont even speculate if the racial population contributed to that). As it is, no black persons appeared in abundance in the Phantom, if at all, so clearly that didn't play a part.
I just finished watching a couple of Weissmuller movies and wondered if close-ups of trees were considered too unauthentic, and brought about criticism. Who knew what the trees in Africa looked like?

But even still, this sequel was supposed to be continued from Connecticut. Was Louisiana supposed to look like Connecticut?

I'm going to check it out again if it was actually filmed in Louisiana. I know thngs like Sounder and Hush Sweet Charlotte were filmed in Louisiana.

I guess its mostly the exterior shots, but regardless what Louisiana was supposed to 'look like', it was supposed to be a sequel to the one that ended in Connecticut.

Again, only thing I can think is something must have been cheaper, but you rely on the illusion you get from where you film it, you don't actually say that's where you are.

Weissmuller didn't go to Africa for all those Tarzan movies.

Maybe there was a film tax credit..

Ha ha. Several people have been arrested over the last few years for fiddling with the tax credits. Lots of money changing hands. Movies and TV shows are constantly filming here in Baton Rouge.
