Great Movie

It's one of my favorites and I'd love to see a dvd release.

It's a dirty job,but I pay clean money for it.

Just saw this again today from TCM and had forgotten how much I enjoyed it. A little long, but the two stars (Greer and Walter) give great performances. The real standout here, though, is Agnes Moorehead. She deserved here Oscar nomination for her subtle, lovely performance, and she is a real charmer in this film. This woman could act! Gladys Cooper gets special mention too as the Parkington's daughter.

Well worth a look if you're a fan of MGM dramas of the 1940's.

I have no issue with those who admire Agnes Moorehead's performance here, but I cannot agree with the implication that her performance was better than Greer Garson's. Greer was exceptional here, as she is in really everything I have seen of her.

I like i assume some here saw this film on a double bill on TCM with Bette Davis in Mr. Skeffington. While that film had some problematic elements, it was another great performance by Bette Davis, one of the if not greatest female film stars of all time. Yet Greer Garson's performance in this film I felt was at least the equal.

Also great was Walter Pidgeon. I love how he uses just a touch of the sardonic to make his character seem so real in what is otherwise a rather fanciful setting. The suggestion of mischeviousness helps lend plausibility to his character's actions and decisions. And Garson and him together make a great screen couple.

Yes, add Morehead to the mix, but don't leave out the two leads.
