Here's What Should Have Happened

When Mr. Winkle got back from war, he should have ditched that shrew of a wife and just adopted the little boy! (Sadly, though, I guess they probably wouldn't have allowed a single man to adopt a child back then...)

I agree that he should of adopted the boy in the first place. I love this movie. The story is sort of moving and I think that Edward G. does great work in this picture. One of his best. A sleeper hit for sure.

The Truth is out there.

I can't recall Edward G. ever turning in a weak performance.

He carries this film. The boy was good too.

May I suggest this other Eddie G gem from Columbia.
It's called "Destroyer" from 1943. Eddie's an aging WWI chief that goes back into the Navy and goes nose to nose with Glenn Ford.
This is a serious and well done film, but with supporting performers like Ed Brophy and Edgar Buchanan there's plenty of salty humor here.
As always Eddie steals the show.

Thanks for the tip on the "Destroyer" movie. Did you know that Edward G had a brother who looked very much like him.
