Editing movies for PC reasons

They edited out the shortened word JAPan in the movie on THIS TV. I don't know why it is deemed offensive. Isn't Czech good enough for the czechoslovakian peoples???

reply

Wow, I was trying to figure out what word they were censoring!
Still a fun little movie.
thanks!

The reason they edited that word but not something like Czech is probably because Czech is generally not used as a slur while this word is.
Not saying I agree with the decision. I feel that at the time the movie was made that was a common way to refer to the Japanese people and should be looked upon as a statement of our history and how far we have come.
I feel the same way about the character Jim (I'll not use the full name from the book as I don't need all the problems that would come with it) from Huckleberry Finn and how some people think the novel should be edited so no one gets offended. It should just be looked upon as a history lesson and everyone get on with their lives.

I assumed they were using the more offensive word "Nip", which I've heard edited out of a lot of old movies.
