The deck show on the 'SS Simon Bolivar'

At first I suspected that that had to be a fictitious name for a Liberty ship, but... there actually was a Liberty ship named the "SS Simon Bolivar," built in 1943. It's hull number was 1623, not the No. 281 that was given in the film. That number belonged to the Liberty ship "SS Abiel Foster."

Earlier, there was also a Dutch passenger liner named the "SS Simon Bolivar," sunk by a floating mine in 1939. Sad story. Read more here: http://www.wrecksite.eu/wreck.aspx?1865
