Incredible disappointment...


muddled, slow and ultimately boring. I didn't see it as a child, as other posters have done, but seeing it now, as an adult, after many successor psychological dramas that are far more searching, perceptive and provocative, I find it rather silly. This is not, however, to belittle the hardworking and talented performers.

I agree. For a movie with such an intriguing title and premise, it falls short. As far as Gainsborough melodrama goes, I much prefer The Wicked Lady or The Man in Grey.
