Slowly I turned....

Haven't seen this flick in 25 years but busted a gut when that skit first appeared in this film.
Hahahahaha.....
Funny how you remember certain things.

Can't believe Marilyn Maxwell was only 22/23 in this film.
Women just seemed so much more mature back then.
Sigh -- What a dish....

I saw the movie about ten years ago in a revival theater. I just rewatched it on DVD, and the "Slowly I turned..." routine was the only part I remembered. It was a classic even before Lost in a Harem: wikipedia.org/wiki/Slowly_I_Turned.

Slowly I Turned is a comedy classic. I've also seen it done in a Three Stooges short, but I prefer Abbott & Costello's version, actually.

It was also done on I Love Lucy. Just a riot! Say, do you know who the extremely tall actor is: I checked and there are a ton of uncredited actors. I thought he might be the palace guard but that does seem to be the right one. I love this flick also, btw.

Never mind. I got it. His name is Lock Martin and he plays BoBo. He was also Gort.

Were Lock Martin's lines dubbed in? Possibly by someone else? The sound quality of his voice doesn't match that of the others in the scenes with him. (Reminded me of "Putney Swope".)

reply

Bobo's voice was dubbed by Billy Bletcher. Ironically, Bletcher stood only 5'2", but often spoke for huge, intimidating characters.

Young girls wanted to look like women in those days. For the last 50 years they have wanted to look like teenagers their whole lives. Or even like teenage boys.
