97 minutes, still overlong

When i read the plot summary of this film for the first time, i got so excited. The plot seems so great, it had a feel like something like ''Jaws''.

But man did i not see any of that specatcular plot, when i watched this film It's 97 minutes long, and still feels like a slog to get through. This is the only Hitchcock film i dislike. The rest are good/great/masterpiece. (From what i've seen ofcourse)

Hitch held your interest with great performances and dialogue in what is basically a one-set film. And he didn't need a mechanical shark to do it!

I've seen many one set films, this is one of the worst, the characters were forgetable, the performances mediocre, and so was the dialogue. I had no feeling of suspense or mystery when watching this film. Which are the 2 most prominent feelings one should have when watching a Hitch film.

Lifeboat never fails to hold my interest. Slezak's and Bankhead's characters are among the most memorable in AH's films.

Walter Slezak played the German U-boat captain (the guy who did all the rowing).
Tallulah Bankhead played the glamorous journalist (the gal who lost her typewriter, fur coat, among other things).
If you ever see the film again, take note of these two fine performances.

The German U-Boat captain was fine, Bankhead was really good indeed, the only female in the Lifeboat i believe. Yeah she was good

There was also the terminally depressed lady who left the boat early on after her baby died as well as the young woman who made a love connection with Hume Cronyn.

Not liking Lifeboat is one thing, but calling it one of Hitch's worst is going a little "overboard."

reply

Love that pun.

I havent seen every Hitchcock film, but from what i've seen of his (about 10 movies) it is definitely his worst. I am sure he made weaker films.

I had high hopes, it was highly disappointing. The rest of the Hitch films i've seen are all 8+ films
