Tallulah Bankhead's German was fantastic.

Don't you guys think? Very impressive, especially the accent.

reply

I agree. It's always disappointing when an actor who is playing a german and whose primary language is english speaks german with an awful accent. Miss B spent time in London and probably learned german during that time. English born actors seem more likely to learn a foreign language because of their proximity to the european continent.

reply

She spent time in London -- but was not British. She's from Alabama. Just to be clear.

reply

Thanks for making that clear. I didn't clearly explain that being raised in London or just visiting for an extended period promotes chances for learning a foreign language. BTW just re-watched "man hunt" with George Sanders as a Nazi major--his German was perfect!

reply

He was such a talented man -- I wonder if he learned German as a school student; or did he have a dialogue coach. Either way -- he was terrific.

reply

She sounded good when she was talking in German to the U-boat captain. I don't know how she would have sounded to a German.

reply

I studied German ages ago, so I'm no expert, but she sounded quite good to me.

reply

It is possible she studied German in school, or for the film. I recently viewed the classic and was impressed as well. Then again, her German could have been dubbed as well.

reply

Yeah it was great. Talented actress.
