Elizabeth Taylor uncredited role......

Elizabeth Taylor was luminous as little Jane's friend Helen.

Anyone know why the role went uncredited ?
Was it as a favor to the director or to a studio ?
Or a chance to increase her exposure ?

Thanks !

Luminous and heartbreaking, despite them cutting her role in half. Perhaps they didn't credit her since she was in it so briefly.

interesting, that character did indeed stand out.

It was a delight to watch young Elizabeth as Helen! I think she totally stole the show in the first half of the film!

It is possible because there were not enough room to credit her name in the movie, unlike the end credit nowadays that can go for 5+ minutes.

Her role was important, but there were many more bigger roles.

I'll see my lawyer about this as soon as he graduates from law school.

Interesting that this film was made by Fox. Elizabeth and Margaret O'Brien must have been on loan out from MGM since that was their home studio. Taylor had already been in Lassie Come Home at MGM, and was about to star in National Velvet at MGM, so it is strange that she is uncredited. Peggy Ann Garner was one of Fox's up and coming child stars and perhaps they just didn't want her to share screen credit with another girl from another studio her age.
Margaret O'Brien is credited, even though her part is fairly small considered she's already done such starring roles as "Journey for Margaret" and "Lost Angel". This seems almost a step backwards here to be loaned to Fox for a small role.

Her role was bigger than the usual length for uncredited roles or cameos
