terrible movie

This movie is incredibly boring (not quite as bad as the book however). I was forced to see this film and read this book in high school and it was agonizing. The fact that it's old doesn't save it at all. Before you judge me and say I'm simply uneducated for not enjoying bad movies, I'll have you know that I have seen Gone with the Wind and read it and I enjoyed both, so I'm not simply bashing this movie because it's old. It's just a bad movie.

this was definateley a boring movie. i read the book and i really liked it, but that doesn't mean i cant hate the movie. the actors were robotic and, to me, evoked no emotion. since i knew what was gonna happened, i fast forwarded through all the boring parts, which is like 85% of the movie. if you want to see a good version, that is a very a close adaptation, watch the one with Timothy Dalton in the 1983 mini tv movie version. the actors actually act!

Anybody who writes like this can hardly be expected to appreciate a masterpiece!

reply

sorry for not having the same opinion as you, but i simply did not like the movie. i love orson welles. i love joan fontaine (especially in her roles in Rebecca and Suspicion), but i did not like this movie. it did have very beautiful cinematography for being black and white, but that was the only saving quality of the film. it is a masterpiece to you, but to me it was okay.

reply

It is the best version. Joan Fontaine is great as Jane Eyre also
Orson Welles and Mr. Rochester. I like the mood of the movie.

reply

Best version, to date.

reply

How many versions "to date" have you seen?

reply

AGREE 100 PERCENT---I have seen all but five remakes (21 TOTAL)--- FONTAINE was great, SOME OTHER ADULT JANE'S WERE VERY GOOD--the best young by far was PEGGY ANN GARNER--REMEMBER THE OLD TIMER KNOWS BEST)---

reply

Best version hands down.

reply

This is the definitive version.

reply

How, exactly, do you define definitive?

I agree that this is a great film. That's beyond reasonable contention. But as an adaptation of the book, it falls down in many areas.

"it did have very beautiful cinematography for being black and white"

I was going to make some comment about ignorance, cluelessness, stupidity, or some such pathetic affliction, but I won't. I won't. The hell I won't!

reply

Message to liscarkat - well hell, I shall. Someone needs to.

reply

You fast forwarded thru 80% of the film....how can you judge it?

reply

I have to say that I think the most outstanding version and a true classic is the 1973 version with Michael Jayston and Sorcha Cusack. It is an absolute classic and the acting is tremendous!

reply

I loved this movie. Read the book too. To each it's own.

reply

How can you give an accurate review of a film if you fast-forwarded 85% of it???

I love this movie! and the novel. it has some really great themes about being faithful to morals even when it separates you from one you love. This is my favorite film version of the book.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Personally I thought they did a faithful adaption and I liked the acting too.

we live in a beautiful world..yeah we do, yeah we do.

reply

The movie was a little dull, but like someone else mentioned, the cinematography made up for it. Also, Bernard Hermann's score was great.

reply

This adaptation is rubbish. The one with Charlotte Gainsbourg is really good (if that's how you spell her name).

reply

No offense, but I don't many high schoolers who would have appreciated this movie. Maybe you should give it a second chance as an adult with a different perspective.

reply

I agree. I think that you should watch the movie again too. You might like it a second time. I watched it twice and I liked it better the second time.

This version of Jane Eyre evokes exactly the atmosphere and feel of the novel to exactly the right degree - something I have yet to see in any other. Many come close, and a lot of those are excellent adaptations.

For me however, this is the ultimate version. It's cinematography, score, perfectly cast actors are all well... perfect. I love every minute of it.

To those who found it dull and boring - what were you expecting? Car chases and gun fights?!

I was glad to read your post and see that you have a good sense of classic films.

Then I saw your signature, and realized that you only present the illusion of intelligence.

i like how i started this post like a year ago and it still exsists, i still stand by opinion that Jane Eyre both film and book is quite possibly the worst story every created.

actually no, I have never started another post in any other movie because I hated it, it's just that Jane Eyre is so terrible that it drove me to do this

This is the ultimate version for me as well...One of my favorites since I was 10.

Bernard Herrmann's score was pure genius...What a special musical gift he possessed.

AHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Ok, let me laugh.

You've seen gwtw SO that leaves you the right to insult every other movie that is more than 10 years old.
You're funny.

I was going to explain to you why you are plain stupid but finally i just think it's cute.

Aw.

reply

let me apologize for having a different opinion than you, but to make up for it i could send pictures showing you how cute i am if you wanted them

reply

In fact i haven't seen this movie, i don't know if it's good or not, maybe it's not, and you have the right to your opinion.

It's the gone with the wind thing that i tought was truely funny.
Have you seen anything else made before 1980?

"Well, I think if people loved eachother more, they'd shoot eachother less!"

reply

It's amazing that this thread has the most posts out of any of the other topics for this movie. It just goes to prove that this movie so boring and agonizing that there is seriously nothing better to talk about in it than to try to tell someone who hates it (me) how stupid they are.

thank you, i really appreciate it, just like i have nothing against people who like this movie, you should have no personal vendetta against me for disliking it.
