This movie is incredibly boring (not quite as bad as the book however). I was forced to see this film and read this book in high school and it was agonizing. The fact that it's old doesn't save it at all. Before you judge me and say I'm simply uneducated for not enjoying bad movies, I'll have you know that I have seen Gone with the Wind and read it and I enjoyed both, so I'm not simply bashing this movie because it's old. It's just a bad movie.

this was definateley a boring movie. i read the book and i really liked it, but that doesn't mean i cant hate the movie. the actors were robotic and, to me, evoked no emotion. since i knew what was gonna happened, i fast forwarded through all the boring parts, which is like 85% of the movie. if you want to see a good version, that is a very a close adaptation, watch the one with Timothy Dalton in the 1983 mini tv movie version. the actors actually act!

sorry for not having the same opinion as you, but i simply did not like the movie. i love orson welles. i love joan fontaine (especially in her roles in Rebecca and Suspicion), but i did not like this movie. it did have very beautiful cinematography for being black and white, but that was the only saving quality of the film. it is a masterpiece to you, but to me it was okay.

I agree that this is a great film. That's beyond reasonable contention. But as an adaptation of the book, it falls down in many areas.

I love this movie! and the novel. it has some really great themes about being faithful to morals even when it separates you from one you love. This is my favorite film version of the book.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. Personally I thought they did a faithful adaption and I liked the acting too.

The movie was a little dull, but like someone else mentioned, the cinematography made up for it. Also, Bernard Hermann's score was great.
This adaptation is rubbish. The one with Charlotte Gainsbourg is really good (if that's how you spell her name).

No offense, but I don't many high schoolers who would have appreciated this movie. Maybe you should give it a second chance as an adult with a different perspective.

This version of Jane Eyre evokes exactly the atmosphere and feel of the novel to exactly the right degree - something I have yet to see in any other. Many come close, and a lot of those are excellent adaptations.
For me however, this is the ultimate version. It's cinematography, score, perfectly cast actors are all well... perfect. I love every minute of it.
To those who found it dull and boring - what were you expecting? Car chases and gun fights?!

Bernard Herrmann's score was pure genius...What a special musical gift he possessed.
