How many people involved in this production were later blacklisted or otherwise targetted by HUAC? It's sad to see this film and think of all that really did happen in Poland during and afterward, and the war we were fighting at the time. (Not to mention what one thinks of today in terms of sophisticated weaponry and where we are now: "men against machines.")

shareIt is even sadder to think that people could make a film that celebrates Poland, and yet support an abominable tyranny that ground that hapless nation under its heel for decades.
At the time the film was made, the old aphorism was in effect that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."
