The Lake

While watching this film I started wondering where the lake scene was filmed and if its still there or has been developed into a upscale community, does anyone know?

It says it's Big Bear Lake. A little searching shows Big Bear Lake is a reservoir in the San Bernardino Mountains, in San Bernardino County, California. It is a completely snow-fed lake, having no other means of tributary or mechanical replenishment. It is located 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles and surrounded by the San Bernardino National Forest. There also is a city called Big Bear Lake along the south shore of Big Bear Lake.

Just watched it (again) on TCM -- this made wonder just where "Pine Hill" was supposed to be. In the lake scene Mary had to stop short of the state line, and she had just explained that she liked the Christmas season weather there because it matched "the original" (meaning no snow -- but the folks seems to be wearing plenty of overcoats). Mary also gives Houston as her first stop when she goes back "on the road" (and there's a Houston pennant on Barbara's bedroom wall). So perhaps they're someplace in west Texas...

Oh well, just chalk it up to movie magic.
