Joan Leslie

Since Joan was the "object" of "Slim's" obsession and a major part of the movie, why is she religated to the "rest of the cast" area?

They're listed alphabetically.

"Why do you find it so hard to believe?"
"Why do you find it so easy?"
"It's never BEEN easy!"

Nice picture, but a dumb premise. For one thing, the army wouldn't have sent the two GIs all the way back to California just for three days sick leave. They would have sent them to Australia or Hawaii. Second, it's totally ridiculous to think that a then-promising actress like Joan Leslie (who never became a real star) would have fallen for a poor, klutzy, ordinary corporal like Slim. At best, she was just being nice to him.

Please don't anybody say she regarded him as a "friend" (Shudder!). That's womanspeak for "I'll call on you if I ever need you for something but I'd rather burn in hell for eternity than let you touch me for one minute." Of course, maybe she was just playing a fictionalized version of herself. "Slim" was not a real GI after all.
