Rodgers + Hart never wrote a bad tune.............
An enjoyable movie. Many positives, only a couple of negatives. Sinatra was certaiunly at his height of appeal, good looking and very talented, one look and smile from him and you could see how he thrilled everyone at that time. What a singer........wow.
And that Marcy McGwire was so cute and talented, "I saw you first" was a knock-out number. If she did'nt become a star then, it was probably because she preferred to get married in real life and have a family, at least thats how I read her bio from IMDB.
Victor Borge, amazing, charming and funny as ever, and he could sing, too.
Rodgers and Hart never wrote a bad tune, too bad they did'nt use more of their songs from the musical. Although, I had no objections to the McHugh/Adamson music, it was all scored very nicely.
What a brilliant cast, except I could'nt buy the Michele Morgan portrayal of Millie, who was supposed to be fey, naive, kooky and innocent. Although Michele Morgan was only 23 at the time, she looked very mature and sophistocated for the role of Millie. And no way could I buy the debutante's dance, with all the high-jinks on the dance floor, with or without MM, it might have played well on the Broadway stage, but fell short in the movie. It really could'nt have happened with that reaction from the debs, because at that time, they were all truely very "snooty" and "snobby" and would have viciously jeered and mocked Millie off the dance floor.
Watching the film is "A Lovely Way to Spend an Evening".
