'Collision mats'!!

I just loved this film! There are so many things about it to like, I can see why Sturges is so well remembered even today, but I have to single out the writing as being particularly clever well-crafted! It's all so rapid fire and smart - I just love it!

But I was especially tickled to pick up a new (to me, anyway) bit a slang from the breakfast table scene where Bracken comes in, all bubbly and enthusiastic and refers to his mother's "flannel cakes" (pancakes to some folks) with the Marine nickname of "collision mats"!! I really laughed at that one!
