Switched at birth?

It's mentioned that both Truesmith and Noble (the younger) don't resemble their fathers...we see Truesmith (pere) in the photograph/shrine and he resembles the younger Noble...I was expecting there to be a revelation at the end of the movie that the two were switched at birth (in the hospital or something), but nothing was mentioned. Was this a cut plot point, or am I reading too much into it?

Hey, you're really smart. That's a cool idea. But I've never heard anything of it and it's probably a coincidence.

Oh, it's interesting that you noticed that but I do think you're reading too much into it. I think the only reason it was mentioned that Woodrow didn't look like his father was because he was kind of thin and scrawny and it led to the great line "It's hard to realize. He was a fine looking fellow. He didn't look anything like you at all.", an unintentional insult by the Sarge while Woodrow's buying them all drinks.

“Penguin, Joker, Riddler... and Catwoman, too! The sum of the angles of that rectangle is too monstrous to contemplate!”

i didnt really pay attention to the photo but you might be on to something. one of my favorite things about sturges is the way he snuck in the funniest lines and didnt have the actors respond with a big double take the way lesser directors would.

There's definitely a suggestion that Forrest Noble is not Mayor Noble's son. As he's walking along the street with Libby, he says something like "I'm nothing like my father", and she says "I was counting on it".

Those probably aren't the exact words because it came over on screen as a little more pointed, with a clear implication that Forrest's mother had been shopping around for better genes that the mayor could provide - one of those Hayes-sidestepping jokes that Sturges did so well...

I used to want to change the world. Now I just want to leave the room with a little dignity.

Woodrow and Forrest had hay fever.

Why did they both have hay fever? Same father. Hinky Dinky Truesmith was drafted and, before being shipped out, went around town to wish a fond farewell to some old friends. A handsome guy like that must have been very popular. Mrs. Noble seemed particularly impressionable.
