Historical Accuracy?

How accurate is this movie? *Spoilers*

Did Dr. Morton really get screwed out of any sort of reimbursement for his discovery? Or, like his contemporaries claimed, did he steal their own idea? The movie itself was a little boring, but I am curious about Dr. Morton.

100%, man. 100%.

It remains a mystery to date. From Wiki:

It is now recognized that Dr. Crawford Long's use of ether predated Dr. Morton's use, although Morton is credited for widely publicizing the technique.

The movie is a little out of rhythm, but it's because it was heavily cut by Paramount and Sturges felt it was "cut for comedy".
