Come on Warner Bros, give us our Blade Runner Special Edition

Does anyone know if there is an interesting story behind that? It seems like an actor wouldn't be nominated in both categories for the same role without some kind of flub on the part of the academy.

reply

Yes I was wondering the same thing...

I believe that he received enough points in the balloting for each individual category to be nominated in both categories. But this was considered something of a faux-pas, so after this incident, the Academy changed its rules. If someone gets points in both categories, the Academy totals the scores and put them into whichever category they had the most points in.

The thing that amazed me years ago when I looked it up is that Barry Fitzgerald was only 58 years old when he made the movie. He lived until 1961.
