Church Propaganda movie

What a total piece of crap,. While all this propaganda about Priests being good servants of the Lord. they were involved in child molestations, covering up child molestations, and who knows what other crimes. In those days this kind of movie probably could be sold ,but today this would not fly, its just too phony, the whole idea of these "men." devoting themselves to celibacy. Its laughable. I was brought up in New York ,with the whole Catholic church always playing too much of business in peoples lives. I don't buy it.

Surprised you watched it.

I enjoyed it. The Church will always endure...despite your opinion.

Go back to China you communist!

I have some bad news for you. There is bad everywhere. So I think, by your standards, any movie that isn't a violent, grim expose will be seen as propaganda.

Also, it's just a movie. Take your prozac and try to relax for a little. It might help un-bunch your panties.

There are a lot of church propaganda movies, but I actually don't think this is one.

Sure, there's the unnecessary Mr. Belknap, who says nonsense like "I don't believe in anything ... I'm an atheist. Besides, I'm superstitious." No atheist would say they don't believe in anything, or that they're superstitious. Those are things religious nuts say about atheists.

But, overall, it's a movie about an old man being replaced by a younger one, and the younger one trying to be sensitive about how he does that.

I thought it was OK. 7/10

As for best movie of that year, I give it to Ivan the Terrible, Part One (not that I've seen many 1944 films...)

By the way, you mention "who knows what other crimes". It was recently discovered in the Netherlands that the church had boys castrated when they reported their sexual abuse by priests. Only time will tell whether this new discovery, as usual, is the tip of the iceberg.

I just think it's funny how there's not much of an age difference between the younger and older priest.

Well someone had a great big heaping bowl of Trollflakes this morning.

On May 15th 2016, Turner Classic Movies aired "Going My Way", and immediately followed with "Where the Boys Are". Does someone at TCM has a fantastic sense of humor...or is it just a coincidence?

reply

Hays Office wouldn't allow any other depiction
