Dana Andrews and Harold Russell together again - in 1972

Just discovered this gem on YouTube. Ralph Edwards did a "This Is Your Life" with Dana Andrews while the actor was doing Summerstock in the Midwest in 1972. Andrews is excited and surprised to see his old BEST YEARS castmate. Unfortunately, their conversation is rather brief, but the mutual respect and affection is real. Enjoy!

Thanks for posting this wrfarley. Nice segment with Harold Russell. I think Dana recognized his voice immediately and was sure glad to see him again. I watched the whole program and was happy to learn that Dana beat alcoholism. I always thought he died a drunk. His public service video on driving drunk was admirable.

Glad to share it. There is very little about Dana Andrews' life and career online, believe me, I looked. This was a very nice find.

Thanks for that wrfarley. Andrews looked good but wow Harold Russell especially did. Yes too bad it was such a quickie moment with them.

turtletommy, with Dana surrounded with so many childhood friends and relatives, I think Harold Russell may have gotten as little - or less - attention at the after party, too.

Thanks very much for posting this! I was surprised by the discussion about alcoholism. It's over 40 years ago, but the attitude towards it seems to be very much like it is today. Someone I thought the recognition of it as a disease (like diabetes) came much later on.

Wow that was really cool. Dana looked great still. I have almost all his movies either on DVD, Blu or bootleg or streaming. He's one of my all-time favorites. I do wish there were more actors that came aboard. I dug that... the actress... I can't place her name but she'd changed it... She was always the crazy lady, at least in LAURA and FALLEN ANGEL but then in YEARS she was surprisingly subdued, and her character didn't initially loathe Andrews, who wasn't a hardened cop or a hardened con man. BEST is the movie that showed he could be beyond human in a movie. He really is... the best, in my opinion. Pun intended.

He did look great, regardless of his problems with the bottle.

After seeing all of those relatives and long-lost school chums, it shouldn't be surprising that Andrews wasn't "over the moon" to see Harold Russell again.
