Was there ever a movie..

in the 1940s that Joseph Cotten DIDN'T act in?? Seriously, one of the most underrated and overlooked actors Hollywood ever produced. Truly great in every film he was in, too, he wasn't just "eye candy" or a character actor, he had real talent. Wonder why he wasn't/isn't a bigger name?

I feel the same way. I'm always amazed at seeing him in the least expected places: Citizen Kane, Shadow of a Doubt, The Third Man... what a career!

This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.

Well, he was a pretty big name, and the merits you cite are one of the reasons he worked so much, and for so long. As well-remembered as he is for the kind of sophisticated and jaunty characters he played in such films as GASLIGHT and THE THIRD MAN, he's also very effective, for example, in NIAGARA, as Marilyn Monroe's neurotic and emotionally tortured husband.

Poe! You are...avenged!
