Plot Hole: Deria mistaking Dr. Bailey for Alec Gregory???

What does it mean when Deria, the nanny, mistook George Brent's character Dr. Bailey for Mr. Gregory?

After 3/4 through the movie, Deria had her head down looking under the sofa for the child's Humpty-Dumpty toy and thought it was Mr. Gregory behind her asking if she needed help. She said she was near-sighted when she looked closer at him and realized it wasn't Mr Gregory standing before her but a rather good-looking young fellow.
How could Deria have met/known Alec Gregory if he died before the child was born and before her services were required?

Excellent question! I was confused by the same thing.

It's a good question and I've noticed it as well; however I had a different kind of objection. We can imagine that Deria could have been among Bederaux family servants before the baby was born, and then upgraded to a nanny - not completely plausible, I know that you'll say as a contra-argument that a rich family like Bederaux could easily afford a best professional nanny - but what would make her think that Gregory could be behind her if she knew that he was dead for more than five years? No matter if she was among Bederaux employees at that time or not, if she has ever heard of Gregory (let alone known her) she must have known that he had died years ago.

It was a set up for the climax where Nick pretended to be Gregory so as to commit the murders and get away scott free. Since she is near sighted, she would just notice his clothes and not his face.
