Glaucoma????

In the scene when the doctor is giving his report to Heather and her dad after examining Dave's eyes -- that the corneas had been badly burned and that Dave's eyes were permanently damaged -- Heather asks, "You mean he's blind?" and it sounds to me like the doctor replies, "Yes. Glaucoma." Was that really what he said? He pronounced it more like "Lucoma", so I may have misunderstood.

If that is what he said, does that mean the medical community did not yet have an understanding of Glaucoma back when the movie was made, or were the writers just too lazy to look it up someplace?
