Dreamlike?

Did anyone else feel like there was a very strong dreamlike sense in the film? I felt like that was one of its strengths. Very surreal for 1944.

It was extremely dreamlike. Particularly (and surely intentionally) when Amy alone is on the screen. The scenes with the parents are generally pretty matter-of-fact, but it's made quite clear that Amy's individual world is a dreamy, mysterious, strange yet beautiful place.

Definitely. It is a lovely tale about loneliness and companionship that has a surreal, fantastical atmosphere about it. It's a beautiful film and one of my favorites.
