Is it just me?

I saw this as a first run film in 1944, have seen it on TV and watched it on DVD last night. There has been something about it that has always bothered me. If Rusty could get ahead by becoming a cover girl and, because of jealousy and insecurity, Danny closes his "joint", why does everyone blame her for succeeding and not blame Danny for being petty? Growing up when I did I realize that in the 1940s women were supposed to be quiet and complacent housewives with no ambition outside the home and kids, but it still seemed unfair to put all the blame on her.

They were a team, in love, and because she was selfish and bailed out -- Danny did not want to go on. The flashbacks about Rusty's grandmother explained it.

And here I thought the 40s gave women some of that Roaring Twenties freedom again as in Rosie the Riveter and the WACS WAVES. Whole place was mobilized for Total War. Post war and in 1950s yes then the 'Little Woman' role came into play as men reclaimed bread winning dominate place helped by GI Bill.
Terrific dance numbers in this one.
