Vote to have the film released on DVD !!

I've located the Culprit who has been keeping this film from DVD. Let's
convince them to be Heros and release it. You can go to the TCM website
and vote to have the film released at
http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title.jsp?stid=2206
Hopefully we can egg them on!

This film is available from the Warner Archive Collection at WBshop.com for $19.95. Warner burns it on a DVD-R when you order it. It's a shame that I have to pay so much for a bare bones DVD (just the film itself without even subtitles) but that's the only way to get it.

This film deserves better than a simple Warner Archives release. Those are highly overpriced DVD-Rs, and most of them use source material that has not been given the digital clean-up used for regular DVD transfers. (The studio said it was using that format and approach to keep their costs down, but they're certainly not passing the savings along to consumers.) I've also started hearing complaints that some of these have developed playback problems over time. If nothing else, THE CANTERVILLE GHOST could have/should have been paired with 1945's PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY for a supernatural-themed Oscar Wilde double feature. (Like the treatment given to HOUSE OF WAX/MYSTERY OF THE WAX MUSEUM.) Sadly, other companies have started turning to the DVD-R approach for many of their older titles, which means paying a higher price for a lower quality product.

I bought my DVD copy at the TCM (Turner Classic Movies) website last month. I knew it would be a bit high ($19.95) but I've been waiting for this movie on DVD for a long time. The only goodies on the DVD is the trailer. Watched it tonight and was worth every penny I spent.
