Surprising

there are no posts about this seminal film. It is easily the best version of this oft filmed story. This was Carradine's personal favorite of the 350 some odd flix he made. Also directed by Edgar Ulmer who was easily the greatest B director of them all.I guess people are just too stupid about good, small older movies. No time in their lives for the best of another era.

Well I had to do some serious research to even find that this film existed. If there is no outlet to the public then it is hard to get people interested.

There are many different dvds of this available; some are rather ragged, but others are in fair shape. If one is a fan of Carradine it is must viewing.

Yeah, I was sadly surprised at the lack of interest in this film, it really is good.

Well, after "finding out it existed" I finally watched the film last night, 5-6 years later. I do have to agree, it was a very well-done film (for the budget and shooting time especially).

I thought that this movie was pretty darn good, John Carradine was just fabulous in it,, a painter by day and a killer by night,, a pretty awesome premise,, sort of like jack the ripper, but different.

Yeah it does get its gothic vibes just about right and Carradine is indeed outstanding. However, there's one aesthetic choice I found somewhat questionable - the orchestral score that was blaring nonstop over every single scene; due to the very poor audio quality of the file I watched, the entire film was shrouded in sort of a white noise which made the dialogue very difficult to make out.
