HOW is this not in IMDb's Top 250?

Just curious. 8.1 from 52,728 seems to fit the criteria pretty well.

I agree. I gave it a 9, a rare rating for me, primarily because of Cary Grant's hilarious performance but also because it is a film which I never tire of watching. The two aunts are priceless, as are John Alexander as TR and a young Jack Carson as the witless policeman. Frank Capra's manic direction makes this film romp along, with laughs piling up like those bodies in the cellar/attic. It remains one of my favorite film comedies.

Great points. I'm a tad sad it took me so long to decide to watch it (46 now). Still, better late than never.

No Worries. I'm 40 and I just barely saw it this morning, for the first time. I told the lady at the gas station I was going to watch it and she got all ecstatic. She told me she loved the film.

I dont know! it is one of my favorite movies ever made

I suppose there must be other films that have more votes? Arsenic and Old Lace is old, and a comedy, two things that make it less likely to get i to the top 250.

reply

Lots of older movies are on that list. Not too many comedies in the past hundred years.

Well, certainly one of my very favourite of Grant performances. And I've seen quite a few! =)

I've given it 9/10. I notice that the rating on IMDb has edged down to 8.0 now. It's definitely one of the best black comedies of all time. The aunts are such great characters.

The out-of-control silliness, especially from Grant, spoils it. Finding at least 250 movies that are better is not difficult.
