Amazing factory scenes!

I just finished watching this film on TCM. I had seen it many years ago and was glad to see it again. It is a very upbeat and heartwarming story, but the highlights (at least for me) are the incredible factory scenes! Steel mills, automobile factories, and especially the aircraft factory scenes at the end of the film. My father was a B-17 pilot in WW2 and to see that plane come together in a factory is an amazing treat. It makes me sad that we don't have industry - and the jobs that were created - in the U.S. anymore.

I too enjoyed the factory scenes, especially the B-17 assembly at the end. Locations mentions Douglas Aircraft of Los Angeles, however I believe it was probably the Long Beach facility which produced 3000 B-17s under license to Boeing. I worked at that plant for over 40 years starting in 1965 and recognized some of the exterior shots of the hangars. Sadly, like many aircraft manufacturers the hangars are now gone and it's an industrial park. Donald Douglas was appointed by FDR in 1939/40(?) to head up the US effort to build defense plants for the war effort amd the Long Beach plant was one of the first built.

Yes, they would be seen as polluting because they are polluting. And would you really like to live in China and die young from emphysema? Thankfully we and our children are now less likely to be plagued by all sorts of respiratory diseases.

Thank goodness typically short-sighted conservatives don't rule the country. The Blue Wall of states, and their electoral votes, nearly ensure that in 2017 a Democrat will be in the white house, and the Dems will probably retake the Senate as well. Conservatives are gradually aging and dying off, leaving room for younger, more progressive thinkers (and voters).

Seriously? You reference that right-wing rag? They can't get anyone to pay for it, so they distribute it for free to a base of only 45,000. Pretty pathetic. I wouldn't trust anything they say. How about referencing a real, credible news source? Oh, that's right, you can't.

Your ad hominem attack just reinforces your right-wing wingnut image. People like you feel your conservative base gradually shrinking and dying off. So you lash out, making all sorts of inaccurate assumptions. You're not worth wasting more time on. I think it's time to put you on my ignore list. Bye.

We still make plenty of industrial products here, and our economy is the envy of the world. But because we have a relatively educated workforce, we have shifted from a primarily industrial economy to more of a service economy. Frankly, I'd rather work in a service business than a factory any day.
