Why Yankee Doodle.

Reviewer Dave Glazovsky asked why the movie was called 'Yankee Doodle Daffy', understandably expecting a WWII flag-waver actioner with such a title.
The title is a play on 'Yankee Doodle Dandy', the song by multitalented song-and-dance man/composer George M. Cohan, and the title of a biography movie starring James Cagney (doing some amazing hoofing!). So it's really quite apt.

The reviewers baffled by the title also seem unaware that Yankee Doodle Dandy (the showbiz movie being spoofed here) came out in 1942, so the title and subject were fresh in audience minds when this came out.

Thanks, vmacek. I am bewildered by the reviewers who continue not to get the joke and continue posting comments without first looking for answers to their questions.
