What's with the statute?

I just saw this cartoon and I noticed that it leaves the main plot unsolved.

They went exploring to possibly find some sign of the explorer's father but his situation goes unexplained. The hawkmen had a statute of him and Lois and the explorer question 'But what would they be doing with a statute of him?' but it remains unanswered.

I am so curious to know what happened but I guess that it is left up to the viewer to decide from themselves.

Did the father inspired the hawkmen so they treat him like a god, even after he obviously passed after 40 years? Did they sacrifice him? Did he betray them so they are unfriendly to humans? Did he escape them and died when he tried to seal them in behind the waterfall, which was opened by the dynamite, so they have him as a sacrificial statute? I don't know...

I know that it is just a cartoon but it really makes you think with such an unresolved plot. Does anyone have any ideas, or perhaps the original intentions of the writers?

I just have the idea that Lois and Dr. Henderson were able to be cast in liquid gold. Thus, Dr. Henderson's father must have discovered the Hawkmen and was taken prisoner and cast in gold metal and remains as a statute.

Thinking about it seems really creepy but it's what makes these old cartoons so wonderful - the high quality production and stories, great for adults and kids, not like the crap we had today.

That's what I think. They hint at it when Lois notices the statue with his hands tied behind his back, similar to how they were after taken prisoner.
