This movie could have been written by Hollywood today

This is anti-capitalist propaganda, something the liberals in Hollywood would approve of and disseminate. I didn't see any overt anti-Semitic message here, everyone seemed to be Anglo-Saxon except the Russian Princess. Maybe Hollywood could re-release this and update it with the same theme?

The Germans are famous for Schadenfreude which means taking pleasure in the suffering of others. In this case, they wanted to show the British people suffering, but by the time the movie was released, it was a reminder of German suffering, so Goebbels was furious with the result and had the director executed.

This film was part of a cycle of anti-British historical dramas made in Germany during the war. This one is my favorite together with the 1940 melodrama The Heart of a Queen, a rather glamorized and slanted account of Mary Stuart's rise and fall. You should check it out if you found Titanic interesting.

As a Tudor buff I'd be interested in seeing The Heart of a Queen. I doubt it could be more distorted than any other Mary Queen of Scots story. Is it available anywhere?

The Germans made several pro-Irish movies during this period, but they're too ridiculous to take seriously. I haven't seen Ohm Kruger, which is very hard to find in English.

I'm afraid that you underestimate the number of subjects in which I take an interest!

You're in luck, I know where you can purchase subtitled copies of both film. The Heart of a Queen is very similar to Mary of Scotland made four years earlier in Hollywood, except it doesn't portray the fictional meeting between Mary and Elizabeth and it portrays the latter as a cold and calculating villain rather than the screaming banshee in the earlier film.

Here are the links where you can purchase both films:

Thanks, and a pretty reasonable price tag on each! 
