Fats and who else?

Of course the main character in this cartoon is based on the great Fats Waller, but are any other characters based on real folks? I'd be maybe reaching to say the fat gal was supposed to be Thelma Middleton, but the trumpet player sure looked and sounded like he was supposed to be recognizable - bugs me that I can't place him.
