Just curious here ...

was this a " possible goof " in the film ? I'm watch this movie right now on TCM ( excellent film so far too 👍 ) . I noticed that Gene Kelly's character was wearing a beautifully large blue stoned pinky ring ( on which hand I can't tell ) . I'm not an expert in proper military rules of attire but would a ring as nice as that be allowed for a soldier to wear while in uniform on or off duty ?

Probably not, but then Kathryn Grayson's tam-o-shanter is definitely not regulation either! At some point you have to let go and realize that this is just a charming MGM movie, not a documentary.

I realize that and wasn't criticizing this movie at all Ed in MO 😮 . It was truly wonderful and loved the classic all star cast too 😁 . Although as I watched the movie further yesterday I realized that beautiful ring was actually an important object to the storyline 😉 . So was glad to see perhaps it wasn't a goof after all . What is a "tam-o-shanter " ? 😐 Thanks Ed in MO for your reply ☺ .

A tam-o-shanter is a Scottish cap. Grayson wore one as she sang the "Wichita Ditch" song as the regiment trailed her to her home on the base.

I noticed her twirling Gene Kelly's ring at the end also. A nice little prop cue to show that she was now Gene's girl.

Definitely agree here Ed in MO . That was a clever way to leave it up to the viewer if characters Private Eddie Marsh ( Gene Kelly ) was to marry Kathryn Jones ( Kathryn Grayson ) which most likely was going to happen IMPO . Thanks for your reply and letting me know what a tam-o-shanter was as well .
