Uneven yes, fun to see, YES!

This story is overdone in parts and underdone in others, but hey, it was ww2 and when would you EVER get to see Errol Flynn, Bette Davis, Ida Lupino, Ann Sheridan and Olivia DeHavilland all do musical numbers? I had always wanted to see this film because of all the cameos. It's typical fare for World War two. It's an Eddie Cantor vehicle, for sure. It may not be a GREAT movie, but hey, to get to see big stars who weren't known as singers and dancers doing musical numbers is worth a look. I love seeing wonderful character actors like Edward Everett Horton and S.Z. Sakall and Mike Mazurki!

S.Z. Sakall had just been in what has got to be the biggest movie of his career, 'Casablanca' with another cameo star in this movie, Humphrey Bogart, and they have a scene together. S.Z Sakall was one of many old familiar faces in the Warner Brothers contract player stock company of character actors. It's pretty cool to see Oscar winner Hattie McDaniel do a musical number, too! And I cannot forget to mention how neat it is to see Spike Jones and his City Slickers play a couple of tunes, too!

This is very light entertainment, for sure. An uneven movie, for sure. It's still a lot of fun to watch, though. Don't over analyze it, just enjoy! It's a DVD that has a few extra treats, too. Warner Bros. has been very good about packaging a lot of their films on DVD as what is called 'Warner night at the movies' where you get a couple short subjects, a newsreel and a classic WB cartoon, all from the year that the film was released. Just like how movies used to be back in the 30's and 40's, except you'd get a second feature film, too.

Thank Your Lucky Stars: It's lotsa silly fun!
