Dinah's dress

The dress worn by Dinah Shore at the end (metallic, short-sleeved top with sparkly bottom) was recycled two years later for the movie Mildred Pierce. It's the same dress Ann Blythe as Veda wore at the end of that movie. I know many costumes were recycled, but it's not always noticeable. This one was for sure the same dress, I watched Mildred Pierce last week and Thank Your Lucky Stars today. There's a thread on the Mildred Pierce board where we were speculating what color it was. I think gold, but could have been silver. And both movies were Warner Bros. productions.

I didn't get to see the end of this film yet. Thank you for the heads-up . I've gone back-and-forth on the color of Veda's dress. This doesn't really help, but it's part of my previous thought process: It seemed like Ida was wearing something at the party which had gold in it (stripes) and appeared "darker" than Veda's dress, which could mean Veda's dress was silver or a lighter shade of gold.

Right, and I've always pictured gold for Veda's dress because at that point it looked like the "gold-digger" had gotten everything she wanted. And, contrast that dress with the ugly one at the beginning that Mildred bought for her. So maybe, they went into the costume vaults looking for the gaudiest gold dress they could find, and voila..there's Dinah's. Just a theory. I haven't checked the costume designer of both films. It's also a possibility the costume was used even before Dinah, because Thank Your Lucky Stars was low-budget to benefit the soldiers. I think I heard the stars donated their wages.
