Vincent Price is amazing!

Am I the only one that saw this this movie only because of Vincent Price?

But it was actually quite good, even though i'm not the least bit religious, and Vincent played his role wonderfully.

Vicent Price gave a great performance. Too many people think he only played in horror movies and forget his performances in other films, such as this one and in THE KEYS OF THE KINGDOM.

There were two Vincent Price scenes from THE SONG OF BERNADETTE that really stick out in my mind. The first was when the Lady first started appearing to Bernadette, and he had her brought to his office to discredit her. He meant to unsettle Bernadette, but, remember, she unsettled him by remaining calm and firm in her answers. Of course, his performance was helped by having a strong performance by Jennifer Jones to play off of.

The other scene was at the end. We see Vincent outside the gates to the grotto. It is night, and the pilgrims are processing with candles. He watches them, and his voice-over tells us that the cold he has been fighting throughout the movie is really throat cancer. He comments on all those who are coming to Lourdes for miracles, but that he will never be healed, because he does not believe. Even though he has never been a likeable character, at that moment you suddenly feel for him and wish that he could believe so that he would be healed. Such fine acting -- from him and Jones, from Blanche Yurka and Gladys Cooper, from everyone!

mhearn, I just sent you a private message, confessing to my sins and begging and pleading for absolution.

I'm sorry I took so long to respond to you. LOTS OF STUFF has been happening, all of it exhausting.

To Vincent Price: I love this movie and I love Vincent Price in it, but I'm not crazy about his final scene. I think he does too much with the eyebrows.

Mr Price can over do it sometimes, imo.
Having starred in so many, many movies - its hard to separate the actor from the character he portrays.
But I was very pleased in his somewhat understated performance in this classic.

No, you're not the only one to watch Song of Bernadette for Vincent Price. He's wonderful in it, and very attractive. There are a number of performances in this film that I classify in my head as "pukey," by which I mean they do a lot of looking off into the distance at nothing while they speak their lines and they do a lot of hand-twisting, etc. Price's performance is clean and powerful, puts them to shame.

Vincent knocks my socks off in just about everything he's done, but especially this.

You've got me?! Who's got you?!

Because he's in it is the reason I have added this movie to my DVDs. I'm glad I did anyway. Vincent Price was good and he looks great in that Van Dyke beard.
