Why Is This Not On DVD...?

As a US propaganda film made during the war this one is a classic.

Like many films made during the war, this one is a time capsule of how we thought, how we viewed the enemy and how we viewed ourselves.

In addition to it's notoriety in that genre, it's a great film. Reminds me of something Frank Capra might have done. It also has a powerful Capra like message with regard to "being prepared." More than that it's kinda fun in the beginning due to a certain politically incorrect irreverence that only existed in films of this period.

And finally it does dramatize the heroic sacrifices made by many people in the early years of the war. Not quite as powerful as say "Bataan" but it does a nice job in any case.

This one should rank right up there with the other World War II classics. It's not quite "The Longest Day" but it is every bit as good as "The Flying Tigers" and "The Fighting Seebee's."

Perhaps some people find shame in the racism that can be found in the genre of US propaganda films made during the war. But ours are tame when compared to similar films made in Germany or Japan during the same period. Furthermore I think we should be honest about them and the views held and promoted in these films.

We are no longer at war and they are completely fascinating, especially if you are into classic war movies.
