I just saw this movie and enjoyed it very much. Is the dog who played "Fala" the dog Terry who played Toto from the Wizard of Oz? I'd definitely watch this again and agree, a lot of this appears to have shown up in the movie Roman Holiday

Hah! I knew it! I thought the name "Whiskers" sounded a little too generic for
an animal actor. I wonder why they used an alias, though--wouldn't using the real
Fala provide extra publicity for the movie? Or was using Fala considered somewhat
objectionable back then (I remember looking through an old 1940s magazine in which
people wrote to the editor complaining about a one-panel comic they'd printed which depicted Fala standing on the White House lawn--they'd found it disrespectful to the White House. I wonder what those people would think if they could see more modern depictions).
