The 'Lost' Phantom Movie From 1916


According to the Internet Movie Database, there is a 1916 silent version of Phantom of the Opera made in Germany, entitled "Das Phantom Der Oper". This film was clearly made at the time the author Gaston Leroux was alive and still writing novels. He published Phantom of the Opera in 1911 in French. He may not have known about the German silent film adaptation. I'm interested in knowing where this film is and is there any way audiences can see it ? It is a priceless and valuable piece of Phantom memorabilia. What do you think the film is like ? So there are two silent film versions because the other one is the famous Lon Cheney/Mary Philbin movie from 1925.

Interesting, but like most films of 90+ years ago, it probably decomposed long ago, or was lost during the Wars.
